Biography (somewhat):

Rahul Bishnoi is a theatre practitioner and researcher working at the intersection of Performance Studies and Philosophy. He will be joining Tufts University in 2025. His work explores theatre as a method of research, investigating the performativity of urban spaces through cartography and playwriting.

Rahul holds a B.Tech in Bioengineering from IIT Guwahati and an M.A. in Society and Culture from IIT Gandhinagar. His MA dissertation, 'Pla(y)cemaking: How does a Clown Perform a City?', examined urban performances through Native American clown traditions, merging performance research with creative cartography. He is very grateful to all the theatre teachers he found along the way. Debapriya Basu, Arka Chattopadhyay, Angus McBlane, Andres Fagiolino, Mahesh Duttani... to name a few. And all the theatremakers who collaborated and performed with him; they are all integral part of him.

His research has been presented at international conferences, including the Mid-America Theatre Conference (USA), The Politics of Emotions (APU Bangalore), Imagining the creative city (Capetown) and Ethics and Knowledge Production (IISER Bhopal).

Rahul has participated in artist residencies at Université de Montpellier (France), the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), and Maison Julien Gracq (France). He has won a bunch of grants and fellowships from his creative and critical work, including the French+Sciences Scholarship and Villa Swagatam 2025 grant.

His practice-led research tries to think operate playwriting/playmaking as a creative space to think about philosophies of space.
